Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XXI
In old age, one has many memories —
In old age, one has many
One wonders where one’s home may be.
The past — many beautiful experiences have faded away;
I think of happiness by the green Rhine.
In Mostaghanem I spent golden days
By the sea, with palm trees and shimmering mosques;
Here my heart was placed on God’s scales.
Then the wheel of destiny turned:
And saw me near the world of the Alps —
Here many important inspirations came to me.
Where is the homeland? It is not a
The heart is thy home. It is where
Heaven bestows on us its ultimate Mercy.
Le passé — mainte belle chose s’est perdue ;
Près de la mer, de palmiers, de scintillantes mosquées ;
Mainte parole importante me fut inspirée.
Vergangenheit — viel Schönes ist verklungen;
Am Meer, bei Palmen, schimmernden Moscheen;
Mir ward gegeben manch gewichtig Wort.
Wo ist die Heimat? Sie ist nicht ein Ort —
Das Herz sei deine Heimat. Sie ist dort
Wo uns der Himmel letzte Gnaden spendet.
