Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-LV
Gypsy violinists, bards and minstrels,
Gypsy violinists, bards and minstrels,
Leading a homeless, wandering life:
A beautiful vocation, if consecrated to God —
Gaining much, and losing nothing,
For beauty has its end in God’s Truth;
It is the vocation of the priest, who
It is a holy play adorning a human life.
Violonistes tsiganes, bardes, ménestrels,
Violonistes tsiganes, bardes, ménestrels,
Menant une vie de nomades apatrides :
La plus belle vocation, si consacrée à Dieu —
Gagnant mainte chose, tout en ne perdant rien,
Car la beauté débouche dans la Vérité de Dieu ;
Vocation d’un prêtre qui proclame —
Jeu sacré, parure d’une vie humaine.
Zigeunergeiger, Barde, Minnesänger,
Zigeunergeiger, Barde, Minnesänger,
Ein heimatloses Wanderleben führend:
Schönste Berufung, wenn sie Gott geweiht —
Vieles gewinnend, dabei nichts verlierend,
Da Schönheit in die Wahrheit Gottes mündet;
Berufung eines Priesters, der verkündet —
Heiliges Spiel, ein Menschenleben zierend.
