Artistic beauty is a cosmic power
That has often brought heaven to earth.
The man who serves it may not be
The interiorizing wine flows for others.
Here I think especially of
It brings the wise back to their own hearts.
La beauté artistique est une puissance cosmique
La beauté artistique est une puissance cosmique
Qui très souvent a apporté le Ciel sur terre.
L’homme qui la sert peut sans doute ne pas être spirituel —
C’est pour d’autres que coule le vin intériorisant.
Je pense ici avant tout à la musique —
Elle ramène le sage à son cœur même.
Kunstschönheit ist eine kosmische Macht,

Die gar oft hat den Himmel zur Erde gebracht.
Der Mensch, der ihr dient, mag wohl ungeistig sein —
Für Andere fließt der verinnernde Wein.
Ich denk hier vor allem an die Musik —
Sie bringt Weise zum eigenen Herzen zurück.
