Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-LXVIII

It was in the time of my youth —

It was in the time of my youth —

one wanted to make of me

A reasonable gentleman,

involved in everyday things;

But I dreamt of India,

of temples and dancing girls,

And brahmins

meditating on Om.

The clever ones failed completely —

But Om graciously thought of me.

C’était au temps de mon adolescence —

C’était au temps de mon adolescence —

on voulait faire de moi

Un monsieur raisonnable,

soucieux des choses ordinaires ;

Mais je rêvais de l’Inde,

de temples, de danseuses,

Et de brahmanes

qui méditent sur Om.

Les intelligents ne sont arrivés à rien —

Om a pensé bienveillamment à moi.

Das war die Jünglingszeit —

Das war die Jünglingszeit —

man wollte aus mir machen

Einen vernünftgen Herrn,

besorgt um Alltagssachen;

Ich aber träumt von Indien,

Tempeln, Tänzerinnen,

Und von Brahmanen,

die sich auf das Om besinnen.

Die Klugen haben es zu nichts gebracht —

Das Om hat gnädiglich an mich gedacht.
