World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-LXXI
The line; then the cross that means four;
The line; then the cross that means four;
Then the cross that radiates as a triad;
And then the spiral that transforms the straight line
Into a rotating dynamic.
Then comes the static: firstly the point;
Then the triangle and the square; finally
The circle, primordial image of perfection,
Which brings to an end all play of lines.
All these are symbols that weave the universe,
And signs for the deep life of the spirit.
La ligne ; puis la croix qui signifie quatre ;
La ligne ; puis la croix qui signifie quatre ;
Et puis la croix qui rayonne comme triade ;
Ensuite la spirale, qui du trait fixe
Fait la transition à la dynamique tournante.
Puis le statique : en premier lieu le point ;
Die Linie; dann das Kreuz, das Vier bedeutet;
Die Linie; dann das Kreuz, das Vier bedeutet;
Und dann das Kreuz, welches als Dreiheit strahlt;
Dann die Spirale, die den starren Strich
Zur drehenden Dynamik überleitet.
Sodann die Statik: allzuerst der Punkt;
Das Dreieck und das Viereck dann; zuletzt
Der Kreis, das Urbild der Vollkommenheit,
Das allem Linienspiel ein Ende setzt.
Sinnbilder all dies, die das Weltall weben,
Auch Zeichen für des Geistes tiefes Leben.
