Synthesis and analysis. Synthesis looks
Firmly at the essence of things;
The analytical mind looks with amazement
At the inexhaustible, and wonders if he can fathom
Just as a child looks at a Christmas tree.
For the synthetic mind, multiplicity is froth.
However: one must measure with both
One must not forget the totality of the Spirit.

Synthèse et analyse. La synthèse pose un regard
Rigoureux sur la quintessence des choses ;
Le type spirituel analytique pose un regard étonné
Sur l’inépuisable, comme pour en venir à bout —
Tout comme un enfant regarde un arbre de Noël ;
Pour le synthétisant, la multiplicité est de l’écume.
Toutefois : on doit mesurer avec les deux mesures —
On ne doit point oublier la totalité de l’esprit.

Mit strengem Blick den Urgehalt der Dinge;
Der Geistestyp der Analyse schaut erstaunt
Aufs Unerschöpfliche, ob er’s bezwinge —
So wie ein Kind erblickt den Weihnachtsbaum;
Für den Synthetiker ist Vielheit Schaum.
Jedoch: man muss mit beiden Maßen messen —
Des Geistes Ganzheit darf man nicht vergessen.
