World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-XVII
I heard the gypsy’s violin;
I heard the gypsy’s violin;
The melody
Was love-laden — he sang as though his heart
Would break in twain.
In the human heart is a kernel of suffering,
And yet it is sweet;
We feel what our soul has
Paradise.
All suffering in life bears witness to this
Unconsciously;
But see: the consolation that God gives us dwells
Deep within our breast.
I wish, O gypsy, to be grateful to
Much have I learned
From all the Beauty that thy playing
Brought to me.
J’ai entendu le violon du tsigane ;
J’ai entendu le violon du tsigane ;
Qui est pourtant doux ;
Tout à fait inconsciemment ;
Ich hörte des Zigeuners Geigenspiel;
Ich hörte des Zigeuners Geigenspiel;
Die Melodei
War liebesschwer — sie sang, als bräche ihm
Das Herz entzwei.
Im Menschenherzen ist ein Schmerzenskern,
Und ist doch süß;
Wir fühlen, was die Seel verloren hat —
Das Paradies.
Und davon zeugt im Leben jedes Leid
Ganz unbewusst;
In deinem Spiel.
