What then is sanctity? Certainly, it is
Love of God, and nothing else; but man
Remains man within the orbit of his earthly tendencies.
The saint does not spare the land of the enemy;
Hence the wars of
Even sainthood can strike the neighbor.

Qu’est-ce donc la sainteté ? Certes l’amour
De Dieu, et rien d’autre ; mais l’homme reste
Homme — dans le cercle de ses instincts terrestres.
Le saint ne veut pas ménager le terrain de l’ennemi ;
De là les guerres entre les religions —
La sainteté aussi assène des coups au prochain.

Auch Heiligkeit versetzt dem Nächsten Hiebe.
