World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-LXXXIII
In the morn of thy life’s path,
In the morn of thy life’s path,
Thou feelest fresh and free;
In the evening, when thou wish’st to continue,
All is already gone.
What life is, thou know’st not
When it lies ahead;
But thou know’st it all too
When God closes the door.
It may be that true life
Has not yet begun.
If thou livest in God, be it early or late,
Thou wilt attain the goal.
Au matin du chemin de ta vie,
Au matin du chemin de ta vie,
Tu te sens frais et libre ;
Au soir, si tu veux continuer,
Tout est déjà passé.
Ce qu’est la vie, tu ne le sais
Quand elle se trouve devant toi ;
Toutefois : tu le sais par trop bien —
Quand Dieu te ferme la porte.
Peut-être : la vraie vie n’a
Pas encore du tout commencé.
Si tu vis en Dieu, soit tôt, soit tard,
Tu parviendras au but.
Am Morgen deines Lebenswegs
Am Morgen deines Lebenswegs
Fühlst du dich frisch und frei;
Am Abend, wenn du weiter willst,
Ist alles schon vorbei.
Was Leben ist, das weißt du nicht,
Wenn es dir steht bevor;
Jedoch: du weißt es allzugut —
Wenn Gott dir schließt das Tor.
Vielleicht: das wahre Leben hat
Noch garnicht angefangen.
Lebst du in Gott, ob früh, ob spät,
Wirst du ans Ziel gelangen.
