World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes IV-VII-XVIII

Plato explained — and after him Augustine —

Plato explained — and after him Augustine —

That everything good seeks to give itself;

The creative stream is infinite —

Yet what it brings is temporal, and will disappear.

But be not sad, for all that thou see’st

Stands written with God since the beginning —

So said Rumi. Not the wondrous work of beauty,

Only the earthly shadow-play disappears.

Platon a expliqué — après lui saint Augustin —

Platon a expliqué — après lui saint Augustin —

Que tout bien tendait à se communiquer ;

Dass alles Gute sich verschenken möchte;

Unendlich ist der schöpferische Strom —

Doch was er bringt, ist zeitlich, schwindet hin.

Doch trauert nicht, da alles, was ihr seht,

Seit Anbeginn bei Gott geschrieben steht —

Sagt Rūmī. Nicht der Schönheit Wunderwerk,

Nur dieser Erde Schattenspiel vergeht.
