World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes IV-VII-XCII
Every man to his word. Keeping one’s word is the virtue
Every man to his word. Keeping one’s word is the virtue
Of the upright man who chooses faithfulness;
Self-domination is a yoga that
Ennobles the soul and strengthens the will.
Truth is from God. So be like unto It.
Blessèd the man who keeps his promise.
Un homme, une parole. Tenir parole est la vertu
Un homme, une parole. Tenir parole est la vertu
De l’homme droit, qui choisit la fidélité ;
La domination de soi est le yoga qui
Ennoblit l’âme et trempe la volonté.
La Vérité vient de Dieu. Sois-lui donc semblable —
Bienheureux l’homme qui tient sa promesse.
Ein Mann, ein Wort. Worthalten ist die Tugend
Ein Mann, ein Wort. Worthalten ist die Tugend
Des graden Menschen, der die Treue wählt;
Selbstüberwindung ist der Yoga, der
Die Seele adelt und den Willen stählt.
Die Wahrheit ist von Gott. So sei ihr gleich —
Selig der Mann, der sein Versprechen hält.
