World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes IV-VII-CXIII

I was a fabric designer in Paris;

I was a fabric designer in Paris;

My comrades came from Alsace;

I was content, but I dreamt much,

Until I rent this miserable little corner of happiness

And fled to Algeria — to obtain

What my longing sought; and praise be to God —

The Shaikh al-‘Alâwî said: it is good that thou hast come —

From him I received the light of the Path.

J’étais dessinateur de tissus à Paris ;

J’étais dessinateur de tissus à Paris ;

Mes camarades venaient d’Alsace ;

Ich war ein Stoffdruckzeichner in Paris;

Ich war ein Stoffdruckzeichner in Paris;

Vom Elsass waren meine Kameraden;
