Adastra and Stella Maris: Poems by Frithjof Schuon-Pax
The sage has conquered the world within himself,
The sage has conquered the world within himself,
The world, which is our enemy and rends the heart;
The sage is like an eagle flying to the
Thus the Pipe’s smoke to the Great Spirit rises.
Indeed, the man of God must be a warrior;
The world, which ever dazzles us, makes this demand.
But then: what is the meaning of the Sacred Pipe?
The Peace to which the wise man’s heart belongs.
Qui nous est hostile et nous déchire le cœur ;
Certes, l’homme de Dieu doit être un guerrier ;
Die uns befeindet, uns das Herz zerreißt;
Wohlan, der Gottesmann muss Krieger sein;
Dies will die Welt, die dauernd uns betört.
Doch dann: was ist der Heilgen Pfeife Sinn?
Der Friede, dem des Weisen Herz gehört.
