Mâ shâ’ Allâh: God doeth what He will.

This means that He is free — so one might think —

Because He is the Lord; yet the meaning is this:

You cannot know the cause of everything.

Shaped God’s Image into a human form.

God is not a tyrant, quod absit. Understand

That destiny has causes you can hardly see.

Mâ shâ’Allâh : Dieu fait ce qu’Il veut.

Cela signifie qu’Il est libre — pourrait-on penser —

Parce qu’Il est le Seigneur ; mais en voici le sens :

Vous ne pouvez connaître la cause de chaque chose.

Beaucoup, parmi les braves théologiens,

Ont rendu l’image de Dieu anthropomorphique.

Dieu n’est pas un tyran ; quod absit. Et comprenez

Que vous ne voyez guère les causes du destin.

Mā shā’Allāh: Gott tut das, was Er will.

Dies heiße, Er sei frei — so mag man wähnen —

Weil Er der Herr ist; doch der Sinn ist der:

Ihr könnt nicht jeden Dinges Ursach kennen.

Hat Gottes Bild zum Menschen umgebogen.
