Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XIII
What is evil? Not a second being,
What is evil? Not a second being,
But impossibility becoming possible.
All-possibility comprises this
Being was ready for its own negation.
Evil lies in the way one sees things, someone said,
And not in the thing itself — thus truth becomes smaller.
Certainly, evil can lie in the way one sees
But this is no reason to lie about the being of things.
It also has been said, good is what God wills;
Not so. Good is God’s Nature — and our goal.
Qu’est-ce que le mal ? Non un second Être ;
Qu’est-ce que le mal ? Non un second Être ;
On a dit aussi qu’est bon ce que Dieu veut ;
Non.
Was ist das Übel? Nicht ein zweites Sein;
Was ist das Übel? Nicht ein zweites Sein;
Man sagte auch, gut sei das, was Gott will;
Nein. Gut ist Gottes Wesen — unser Ziel.
