Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-LIX
Position in society is one thing,
Position in society is one thing,
And deepest inward nature is another.
Everywhere man can be
Birth is often merely name and color.
Thus Tiruválluvar, who is honored;
And so too the shudra before whom Shankara bowed.
Une chose est le cercle extérieur de la société ;
Une chose est le cercle extérieur de la société ;
Une autre est notre nature immanente.
L’homme peut partout être un noble —
La naissance n’est souvent que nom ou couleur.
Ainsi Tiruvalluvar, à qui l’on rendit honneur ;
De même le shudra devant qui Shankara s’inclina.
Eins ist der äußere Gesellschaftskreis;
Eins ist der äußere Gesellschaftskreis;
Ein andres ist tiefinnerste Natur.
Der Mensch kann überall ein Edler sein —
Geburt ist oftmals Name, Farbe nur.
So Tiruvalluvar, dem Ehr man zeigte;
Der Shūdra auch, vor dem sich Shankar neigte.
