All beauty demands virtue, otherwise
All beauty demands virtue, otherwise
It is a profanation, the vain sin of Narcissus;
God does not wish the beautiful woman
To proudly wind the wreath of victory about her brow.
Likewise the human mind: it is not meant
To hatch vain things, to spoil or to destroy;
Our vocation is to sow the light given by God
And to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
For God’s gift is man’s obligation.

Elle est profanation, vain péché de Narcisse ;
Dieu ne veut pas que la belle femme avec orgueil
Se ceigne la tête de la couronne de la victoire.
Et de même l’esprit humain : sa fonction
N’est pas de couver choses futiles, de corrompre ;
Notre vocation est de semer la Lumière
Donnée par Dieu, et d’hériter du Royaume des Cieux —
Car le don de Dieu est le devoir de l’homme.

Um Eitles auszubrüten, zum Verderben;
Berufung ist, das gottgegebne Licht
Zu säen und das Himmelreich zu erben —
Denn Gottes Gabe ist des Menschen Pflicht.
