God wills evil, otherwise it would not exist;

He wills it in some way; yet does not wish it.

He allows it to happen, but punishes the evil-doer;

He wills what has to be, yet sits in judgment.

Infinity: what is possible must occur,

And no one can reverse the world-wheel’s spinning.

Evil is merely a spark in the All

That wills to be; for the good is everywhere.

Evil must exist, for often a great good

Comes from a victory of the good’s power:

Thus, deliverance from the bonds of suffering

Would not be possible if evil did not exist.

This thou must know and not merely suppose:

Evil is the leaven of the good,

In a relative way. This is essential:

The Good is perfection in itself.

The Good weaves the world with all its appearances;

What one calls bad is not the true being of things.

Dieu veut le mal, sinon celui-ci ne serait point ;

Il le veut d’une certaine façon, mais ne le désire pas.

Il laisse advenir, mais punit le méchant ;

Il veut ce qui doit être, néanmoins rend justice.

Infinitude : ce qui est possible doit arriver,

Et nul ne peut faire reculer la roue cosmique.

Le mal n’est qu’une étincelle dans l’Univers

Qui veut être ; car le bien est partout.

Le mal doit exister, car souvent un grand bien

Se fonde sur une victoire de la bonne puissance :

Ainsi la délivrance des chaînes de la souffrance

N’existerait point si le mal n’était.

Tu dois le savoir, et non simplement le supposer :

Le mal est le levain du bien ;

D’une manière relative. Ceci est essentiel :

Le Bien est Perfection en soi.

Le Bien tisse le monde et toute apparence ;

Ce qu’on nomme mauvais n’est pas l’être des choses.

Gott will das Übel, denn sonst wär es nicht;

Er will es irgendwie, doch wünscht es nicht.

Er lässt geschehn, doch straft den Bösewicht;

Er will, was sein muss, dennoch hält Gericht.

Unendlichkeit: was möglich, muss geschehen,

Und niemand kann das Weltrad rückwärts drehen.

Böses ist nur ein Funke in dem All

Das sein will; denn das Gut ist überall.

Böses muss sein, weil manches große Gut

Auf einem Sieg der guten Macht beruht:

So die Befreiung aus des Leidens Banden,

Die es nicht gäb, wär Böses nicht vorhanden.

Du sollst es wissen, und nicht bloß vermuten:

Das Böse ist der Sauerteig des Guten;

Beziehungsweise. Dies ist wesentlich:

Das Gute ist Vollkommenheit in sich.

Das Gute webt die Welt, mit allem Schein;

Was schlecht man nennt, ist nicht der Dinge Sein.
