Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-CII
Saintly people often have to suffer
Saintly people often have to suffer
Because of the evil one. Ye must know:
Where there is a great light, there must also be
Sanctity is certainly not a cushion to rest on.
It can also happen that one suffers for others;
The suffering of a saint is not his fault.
He allows the world to be what its nature will;
His consolation is certitude — and patience.
Thou may’st wonder about a
But never about a trial from the Most High.
Il arrive aussi que l’on souffre pour d’autres ;
Il laisse le monde être ce que sa nature implique ;
Es kommt auch vor, dass man für andre leidet;
Des Heilgen Leiden ist nicht seine Schuld.
Er lässt die Welt sein, was ihr Wesen will;
Sein Trost ist die Gewissheit — und Geduld.
Wundre dich über einen Bösewicht —
Über des Allerhöchsten Prüfung nicht.
