Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-CXVIII
What distinguishes a butterfly
What distinguishes a butterfly
From a man? The “I” of the insect
Is divided into a thousand individuals,
Whereas with us, the thousandfold possibility
Dwells within one single
May God deliver the totality of our soul.
Qu’est-ce qui distingue un papillon
Qu’est-ce qui distingue un papillon
D’un être humain ? L’insecte divise
Son ego en milliers d’êtres particuliers ;
Tandis que les milliers de possibilités
Demeurent chez nous dans une unique égoïté —
Et puisse Dieu sauver la totalité de l’âme.
Was unterscheidet einen Schmetterling
Was unterscheidet einen Schmetterling
Von einem Menschen? Das Insekt zerteilt
Sein Ich in viele tausend Einzelwesen;
Während die tausendfältge Möglichkeit
Bei uns in einer einzgen Ichheit weilt –
Und möge Gott der Seele All erlösen.
