Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-LXXXVI
When looking at something, what counts first is “what” one looks at;
When looking at something, what counts first is “what” one looks at;
Then there is the question of “who” is looking;
For instance: the contemplation of beautiful women
Calls for a gaze that is noble and profound.
Likewise: drinking strong, old wine
Calls for the spirit — the sense of Pure Being.
Perception means: know the worth in itself;
Then, be worthy of the object — know thyself!
Dans le regard compte d’abord « ce que » l’on observe ;
Dans le regard compte d’abord « ce que » l’on observe ;
Puis il faut savoir « qui » considère l’objet ;
Par exemple : la contemplation de belles femmes
Implique un regard noble et profond.
Et de même : la dégustation d’un vieux vin fort
Implique l’esprit — le sens du Pur Être.
La perception veut dire : connais la valeur en soi ;
Puis sois digne de l’objet — connais-toi !
Beim Schauen gilt zuerst, “was” man beachtet;
Beim Schauen gilt zuerst, „was“ man beachtet;
Dann frägt sich, „wer“ den Gegenstand betrachtet;
Etwa: zur Contemplatio schöner Frauen
Gehört ein adeliges, tiefes Schauen.
Ähnlich: zum Trinken starken alten Weins
Gehört der Geist — der Sinn des Reinen Seins.
Wahrnehmen heißt: erkenn den Wert an sich;
Dann sei der Sache wert — erkenne dich!
