Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XCI
Man needs canonical prayer —
Man needs canonical
God wills that we think of Him in a rhythm;
Certainly, we can go freely to the Most High —
Nevertheless, God wills to guide the steps of the people.
For if the individual wishes to enjoy the Lord,
There must be a framework for all:
The Lord’s Prayer and the Fâtiha —
And long before these, the Shemâ.
If there were not divine bread from which to
The possibility of wine would not exist.
Dieu veut que nous pensions à Lui dans le rythme ;
Gott will, dass wir im Rhythmus an Ihn denken;
Gewiss, wir können frei zum Höchsten gehn –
Indess: Gott will des Volkes Schritte lenken.
