Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XLIII

If thou see’st the beautiful, which enraptures the soul,

If thou see’st the beautiful, which enraptures the soul,

Do not think it mere vanity and illusion;

Think that God is radiating His Nature —

The world partakes in the ardor of His Love.

Then think of the Essence, look inward —

And thou wilt gain beauty’s eternity.

When praying, dream not of the earthly beautiful —

The soul should grow accustomed to death.

Tashbîh, Tanzîh: emptiness after fullness,

So say the Sufis. After the image, comes silence.

Ne pense pas qu’il n’est qu’illusion et futilité ;

So meine nicht, es sei nur Trug und Tand;
