Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XXXI
Things, which may or may not be —
Things, which may or may not
This is the chain of which life is made;
God is what must be, He is Necessity.
Life ends in the night of
Because it was not Being. It was only possibility,
Like a flower that will fade,
And only for a time decorates the meadow.
And yet: there is the golden farness of Eternity;
Thy heart lives — a star among a thousand stars.
Choses qui peuvent être ou ne pas être ¾
Choses qui peuvent être ou ne pas être —
C’est là la chaîne qui constitue la vie ;
Dieu est ce qui doit être, Il est Nécessité.
La vie se termine dans la nuit de la mort —
Parce qu’elle n’était point Être. Elle fut possibilité
Telle une fleur qui se flétrira
Et rien qu’un moment orne le pré.
Et pourtant : il y a les lointains dorés de l’éternel ;
Ton cœur vit — une étoile parmi mille étoiles.
Dinge, die können sein oder nicht sein —
Dinge, die können sein oder nicht sein —
Dies ist die Kette, die das Leben macht;
Gott ist, was sein muss, ist Notwendigkeit.
Das Leben endet in des Todes Nacht —
Weil es nicht Sein war. Es war Möglichkeit
Wie eine Blume, die verwelken wird
Und eine Weile nur die Wiese ziert.
Und doch: da sind des Ewgen goldne Fernen;
Dein Herze lebt — ein Stern bei tausend Sternen.
