Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-CI
The eagle and the owl — two birds
The eagle and the owl — two birds
That are sacred to peoples far and wide.
The first means: loftiness and sharp discernment,
The second: profundity and contemplation.
The first rules by day, the second by night;
Rich is the symbolism that the Lord has made.
L’aigle et le hibou — deux oiseaux
L’aigle et le hibou — deux oiseaux
Qui sont sacrés chez tous les peuples à la ronde ;
Le premier : élévation et discernement aigu,
Le second : profondeur et contemplation.
L’un règne de jour, l’autre de nuit ;
Riche est le symbole que le Seigneur a conçu.
Der Adler und die Eule — beides Vögel
Der Adler und die Eule — beides Vögel
Die heilig sind, bei Völkern weit und breit;
Der Erste: Höhe, scharfe Unterscheidung,
Der Andre: Tiefe und Beschaulichkeit.
Der Eine herrscht bei Tag, jener bei Nacht;
Reich ist das Sinnbild, das der Herr gemacht.
