Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-CXXIII
There are things that are lent and things that are given —
There are things that are lent and things that are
Those things are lent that everyone can have;
Those that are given are a sacred endowment from God
In order to counter the blindness of the world.
Despise not what is merely lent;
It may be a small building block,
Intended by God for the perfection of the world.
To respect the building-block means:
Not simply to look towards a far-off goal,
But, above all, to build thyself.
Prêtés sont ceux que tout homme peut avoir ;
Ne dédaigne pas ce qui ne semble que prêté ;
Geliehen sind, die jeder Mensch kann haben;
Geschenkt sind die, die eine heilge Sendung
Von Gott sind für der Erdenwelt Verblendung.
Verachte nicht, was nur geliehen scheint;
