Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-XV
Formerly it was thought that one and one are two —
Formerly it was thought that one and one are
Today people think this is far too simple.
They take seriously only what is neither straight nor crooked;
But towards the True, they remain silent.
The Essential is always clear and sharp,
And satisfies the fundamental need of our Intellect;
What is offered us at the tavern of fools?
The intoxication of pride — a poisonous mixed drink.
Satisfaisant le besoin primordial de l’esprit ;
Ernst nimmt man nur, was weder grad noch krumm;
Dem Wahren gegenüber bleibt man stumm.
Das Wesentliche ist stets klar und scharf,
Befriedigend des Geistes Urbedarf;
Doch was uns bietet der Betörten Schenke:
Des Hochmuts Rausch — giftige Mischgetränke.
