At the forest fringe of my garden is a place
At the forest fringe of my garden is a place
That pleased our friend Yellowtail;
Here he loved to stay in the sunshine
With us as brethren, taking part in the Indian life.
He is no longer of this world;
But the soul of the Red people is in the
And with it the Great Spirit, that never fades away.

Qui plaisait à notre ami Yellowtail ;
Il aimait s’y attarder sous le soleil,
Avec nous comme frères au jeu des Indiens.
Il n’est plus de ce monde ; mais l’âme
Du peuple rouge souffle dans les airs —
Avec elle le Grand Esprit, qui ne disparaît point.

Der unserm Freunde Yellowtail gefiel;
Hier liebte er im Sonnenschein zu weilen
Mit uns als Brüdern beim Indianerspiel.
Er ist nicht mehr in dieser Welt; doch weht
Die Seel des roten Volkes in den Lüften —
Mit ihr der Große Geist, der nicht vergeht.
