In Mostaghanem I was told
In Mostaghanem I was told
That Allah has ninety-nine Names,
Names of the essence, and of the qualities;
They are the framework of enlightenment and prayer.
God is the Loving-Kind; whoever names Him thus,
And trustingly invokes Him with this Name,
Hopes all the more that God, who knows us all,
Will be disposed to hear him. Yâ Latîf!
A Mostaghanem il me fut dit :
A Mostaghanem il me fut dit :
D’Allâh, on connaît quatre-vingt-dix-neuf Noms,
De l’Essence et aussi des Qualités ;
Ils sont illumination et le cadre de la prière.
Dieu est Le Clément ; qui ainsi Le nomme
Et L’a appelé avec foi par ce Nom,
Espère d’autant plus que Dieu, qui connaît
Tout homme, sera disposé à l’écouter. Yâ Latîf !

Von Allāh kennt man neunundneunzig Namen,
Der Wesenheit und auch der Eigenschaften;
Sie sind Erleuchtung, und des Betens Rahmen.
Gott ist der Milde; wer Ihn also nennt
Und Ihn mit diesem Namen gläubig rief,
Hofft umso mehr, dass Gott, der alle kennt,
Geneigt ist, ihn zu hören. Yā Latīf!
