World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes IV-VII-CXXI

One day follows another, and so do the nights —

One day follows another, and so do the nights —

We may wish that day and night would bring us something better;

May time overcome our anxiety,

And find us in better circumstances.

But patience! Look not at what happens to thee;

The Will of God is the end of the song.

Thou art not guilty of what fools do —

The wise man’s affairs are in the Hands of God.

What thou art in God, no one can take from thee —

To thee belongs His presence; to fools, their schemes.

Un jour suit l’autre, et de même les nuits —

Un jour suit l’autre, et de même les nuits —

On voudrait que jour et nuit nous apportent du meilleur ;

Puisse le temps surmonter l’inquiétude

Et nous trouver dans une meilleure ambiance.

Doucement ! — ne regarde pas ce qui t’arrive ;

Man möcht, dass Tag und Nacht uns Bessres brächte;

Möge die Zeit die Unruh überwinden

Und uns in einer bessern Umwelt finden.

Gemach — schau nicht auf das, was dir geschieht;

Der Wille Gottes ist das End vom Lied.

Du bist nicht schuld an dem, was Toren machen —

In Gottes Händen sind des Weisen Sachen.

Was du in Gott bist, kann dir niemand nehmen —

Dir sein Geleit; den Narren ihre Schemen.
