In French: intelligence, raison et intellect.

One must clearly distinguish these basic concepts —

To confuse concepts brings endless trouble.

Of course, one must honor one’s own language —

However, French has much to teach us.

Germans of earlier times wrote much in Latin —

But they nevertheless remained German.

Verstand, Vernunft und reiner Geist ; et en français :

Intelligence, raison et intellect. On doit

Clairement distinguer les notions fondamentales —

Une confusion de notions nous apporte constants déboires.

Et puis : on doit honorer sa propre langue —

Toutefois : le français a beaucoup à nous apprendre.

Les anciens Allemands écrivirent beaucoup en latin —

Ils purent néanmoins être des Allemands.

Intelligence, raison et intellect. Man muss

Die Grundbegriffe deutlich auseinanderhalten —

Begriffsverwechslung bringt uns stetigen Verdruss.

Und dann: man muss die eigne Sprache ehren —

Jedoch: Französisch hat uns viel zu lehren.

Die alten Deutschen schrieben viel Latein —

Sie konnten dennoch deutsche Menschen sein.
