So it is said in the Koran. So let the battles rage;
They are bound by the stream of
The world’s victory dance is soon scattered.
Is it not written on the walls of the Alhambra:
“There is no victor but God alone” —
Of human vainglory, nothing remains.
« Il n’y a ni puissance ni force si ce n’est auprès de Dieu » —

Dit le Coran. Laisse donc les glaives se déchaîner ;
Ils sont liés au fleuve du temps —
La danse victorieuse de la terre se dissipera bientôt.
Il est en effet inscrit sur le mur de l’Alhambra :
« Nul n’est vainqueur si ce n’est le Dieu Un » —
Il n’est rien resté de la vaine gloire humaine.

So der Koran. So lasst die Schwerter toben;
Sie sind gebunden an den Strom der Zeit —
Der Erde Siegestanz ist bald zerstoben.
Steht doch an der Alhambra Wand geschrieben:
„Keiner ist Sieger, denn der Eine Gott“ —
Von eitlem Menschenruhm ist nichts geblieben.
