Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XC
A Church Father was of the opinion that only man,
A Church Father was of the opinion that only man,
And not woman, is God’s reflected image;
A pious nonsense — a blasphemy;
Woman is a human being — what else should she be?
Everything in woman manifests the Divine.
In one sense it is man who is the image;
In another sense it is she,
Or it is the couple, that fulfills the Word of God.
Et non la femme est un reflet de Dieu ;
Une pieuse absurdité — un outrage ;
En un sens, l’homme est l’image ;
Und nicht das Weib, sei Gottes Widerschein;
Ein frommer Unsinn — eine Lästerung;
In einem Sinne ist der Mann das Bild;
In einem andern Sinne ist es sie,
Oder das Paar, das Gottes Wort erfüllt.
