Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XXVIII

The Sufis distinguish between jadhb, attraction,

The Sufis distinguish between jadhb, attraction,

And ‘irfân, knowledge;

In the first case, the pious man is drawn upwards;

In the second, God allows him to discern things.

The majdhûb lives from lofty heavenly signs —

The ‘ârif reaches God through his Intellect.

Les Soufis distinguent entre le jadhb,

Les Soufis distinguent entre le jadhb,

L’attraction, et l’‘irfân, la connaissance ;

Dans le premier cas, le pieux est attiré ;

Die Anziehung, und Irfān, das Erkennen;

Im Ersten ist der Fromme hingezogen;
