Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XCIV
Certitude of God is unconditional,
Certitude of God is unconditional,
And with it, the peace of soul that it engenders.
Then certitude of salvation — this is conditional,
And so is its peace, when idle doubt keeps silent;
The condition is the Way to the Most High,
And then noble sentiment for one’s neighbor —
The love for God that tends towards the other.
Certitude de Dieu — elle est inconditionnelle ;
Certitude de Dieu — elle est inconditionnelle ;
Avec elle, la sérénité qu’elle produit.
Puis certitude du salut — celle-ci est conditionnelle ;
Ainsi que sa paix, quand le vain doute se tait ;
La condition est la Voie vers le Très-Haut,
Et puis le noble sentiment pour le prochain —
L’amour pour Dieu, qui se penche vers autrui.
Gottesgewissheit — sie ist unbedingt;
Gottesgewissheit — sie ist unbedingt;
Mit ihr die Seelenruh, die sie erzeugt.
Dann Heilsgewissheit — diese ist bedingt;
So ihre Ruh, wenn eitler Zweifel schweigt;
Bedingung ist der Weg zum Allerhöchsten
Und dann das edle Fühlen für den Nächsten —
Liebe zu Gott, die sich zum Andern neigt.
