Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-CLXXVI
Human language? Words are too narrow;
Human language? Words are too narrow;
A word often contains a whole sermon,
But it remains unnoticed. Therefore sages make
Heavenly wine out of pale earthly
When they elaborate with a commentary,
What wills to be expressed in one word alone.
Le langage de l’homme ? Les mots sont trop étroits ;
Le langage de l’homme ? Les mots sont trop étroits ;
Un mot contient souvent tout un sermon,
Qui pourtant passe inaperçu. Et les sages font
De la pâle eau terrestre un Vin céleste —
Quand ils décrivent par un discours ramifié
Ce qui veut n’être dit qu’en un seul mot.
Des Menschen Sprache? Wörter sind zu eng;
Des Menschen Sprache? Wörter sind zu eng;
Ein Wort schließt oftmals eine Predigt ein,
Doch sie bleibt ungehört. Und Weise machen
Aus blassem Erdenwasser Himmelswein —
Wenn sie beschreiben mit verzweigter Rede
Was nur mit Einem Wort gesagt will sein.
