Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-LXXVIII

Moses crossed the Red Sea

Moses crossed the Red Sea

With his children of Israel. In like manner

The souls of the pious cross the flood of existence,

From the one shore to the blissful other.

Pharaoh, who drowned in the flood,

Is he who is sunk in earthly illusion;

Blessèd is he who escapes this baleful illusion.

Mount Sinaï: the gratitude of the free heart

Which, after trials, attains to God’s Word.

Est quiconque sombra dans l’illusion terrestre ;

So wandern

Der Frommen Seelen durch des Daseins Flut,

Vom Einen Ufer bis zum selgen Andern.

Der Pharao, der in der Flut ertrank,

Ist jeder, der im Erdentrug versank;

Wohl dem, der diesem argen Trug entrinnt.

Der Sinai: des freien Herzens Dank,

Das nach der Prüfung Gottes Wort gewinnt.
