Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-CXXXIV
One of the most difficult problems in metaphysics
One of the most difficult problems in metaphysics
Is that of possibility; so said
An arch-pedant, who had dissected
And for whom, it seems, there was nothing left to know.
Difficult metaphysical problems do not exist
When thou hast grasped the nature of things;
In pure contemplation there is no conflict.
The question of possibility is easy;
Difficult is only a thinking whose convulsions
Tear everything to pieces and achieve nothing.
Si tu as saisi la nature des choses ;
La question de la possibilité est facile ;
Sei das der Möglichkeiten; also schreibt
Ein Erzpedant, der alles hat durchforscht —
Dem scheinbar nichts mehr zu erkennen bleibt.
Schwierige Geistesrätsel gibt es nicht,
Wenn du der Dinge Wesen hast erfasst;
Im reinen Schauen gibt es keinen Kampf.
Die Frage nach der Möglichkeit ist leicht;
Schwierig ist nur ein Denken, dessen Krampf
Alles zerfasert, und das nichts erreicht.
