That ought not to exist in sacred art.
“Not made by human hand”?
One wonders what the artist meant.
This image is a testimony to sentiment and
But not to the man Jesus. It seeks to show
The human god; but in reality
One should keep silent before the mystery of Christ.

Qui ne devrait pas exister dans l’art sacré.
« Non fait de main d’homme » ?
On ne sait pas ce que l’artiste voulait dire.
Elle témoigne sans doute de sentiment et piété —
Mais non de l’homme Jésus. Elle veut montrer
Le Dieu humain ; en réalité toutefois
Il faut se taire devant le mystère du Christ.

Das es in heilger Kunst nicht geben sollte.
„Nicht von des Erdenmenschen Hand gemacht“?
Man weiß nicht, was der Künstler sagen wollte.
Es zeugt wohl von Gefühl und Frömmigkeit —
Doch nicht vom Menschen Jesus. Es will zeigen
Den Menschengott; jedoch in Wirklichkeit
Soll man vor dem Mysterium Christi schweigen.
