Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-XIV

People who have a narrow faith

People who have a narrow faith

Respect only what they believe;

If the wind of truth blows too high,

The fox looks at sour grapes.

Other people are blind to faith,

They respect only the screws of the mind;

Any child is in a better state —

But one cannot preach to the deaf.

Les gens qui ont une foi étroite

Les gens qui ont une foi étroite

Ne considèrent que ce qu’ils croient ;

Si le vent de la Vérité souffle trop haut,

Le renard regarde des raisins verts.

D’autres sont aveugles à la foi,

Et ne considèrent que le mécanisme de la pensée ;

En cela tout enfant est meilleur —

Mais on ne prêche point aux sourds.

Leute, die eng gläubig sind,

Leute, die eng gläubig sind,

Achten das nur, was sie glauben;

Bläst zu hoch der Wahrheit Wind,

Schaut der Fuchs auf saure Trauben.

Andre sind für Glauben blind,

Achten nur des Denkens Schrauben;

Besser dran ist jedes Kind —

Doch man predigt nicht den Tauben.
