Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-XIX

“Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me,”

“Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me,”

Sings David. This does not mean

That the Most High has two staffs in His Hands;

It means that, in dark times,

His shepherd’s crook is our best help. —

The repetition of the image is Semitic,

A mere reinforcement, intended to lead us to the true meaning.

Dies will nicht bedeuten
