Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-CVIII
Squirrels are small compared with elephants;
Squirrels are small compared with elephants;
People say this is so for the eye of man,
But not in itself. Now, man is God’s
Say not that a God-willed measure does not count.
It seems to me that the elephant is big in itself;
You see that there is no bigger land animal.
The earth knows what its cargo should be;
God says: I decide what is big.
There is the relative and there is the Absolute —
But there is also a truth between the two:
The relatively
When God, like lightning, resounds within existence.
Les écureuils sont petits comparés aux éléphants ;
Les écureuils sont petits comparés aux éléphants ;
Il me semble : l’éléphant est grand en soi ;
Vous voyez qu’il n’y a pas de plus grand animal terrestre ;
La terre sait ce que doit être leur charge ;
Klein sind Eichhörnchen neben Elefanten;
Klein sind Eichhörnchen neben Elefanten;
Mir scheint: groß ist der Elefant an sich;
Ihr seht, dass es kein größres Landtier gibt;
Die Erde weiß, was ihre Last soll sein;
Gott sagt, was groß ist, das bestimme Ich.
Verhältnismäßigkeit und Unbedingt —
Doch gibt es eine Wahrheit zwischen beiden:
Das, was verhältnismäßig absolut —
