There is only One God and no other —
There is only One God and no
And nothing is greater than the remembrance of God.
Thus speaks the Sufi — firstly in his mind;
And then he lives it in his inmost depths.
Truth that motionlessly rises upwards;
Holiness that strives towards depth.
The mountain; then the river that springs from it
And fades away in the ocean’s infinity.

Ainsi parle le Soufi — d’abord en son esprit ;
Puis il le vit en son for le plus intérieur.
La Vérité, qui immuable s’élève dans la hauteur ;
La Sainteté, qui aspire à la profondeur.
La montagne ; puis le fleuve qui en jaillit
Et se perd dans l’Infinitude de l’océan.

Und dann erlebt er es im tiefsten Innern.
Die Wahrheit, die sich reglos hoch erhebt;
Die Heiligkeit, die in die Tiefe strebt.
Der Berg; und dann der Strom, der ihm entspringt
Und in des Meers Unendlichkeit verklingt.
