World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-LXI

In Rome, Christians were severely persecuted;

In Rome, Christians were severely persecuted;

Yet: the Romans were not intolerant;

Only because the Christians threatened the Roman world,

Were they dragged without pity before the court.

In the Christian realm Plato’s world was crushed;

So one scarcely has the right to complain.

A Rome les Chrétiens furent durement persécutés ;

A Rome les Chrétiens furent durement persécutés ;

Toutefois : le Romain n’était pas intolérant ;

C’est parce que le Chrétien menaçait la romanité

Qu’on le traînait sans pitié devant le tribunal.

Dans l’Empire chrétien, le monde de Platon fut anéanti ;

Aussi n’a-t-on guère le droit de se plaindre.

In Rom wurden die Christen schwer verfolgt;

In Rom wurden die Christen schwer verfolgt;

Jedoch: unduldsam war der Römer nicht;

Nur weil der Christ das Römertum bedrohte,

Schleppt man ihn ohn Erbarmen vor Gericht.

Im Christenreich ward Platos Welt zerschlagen;

So hat man kaum das Recht, sich zu beklagen.
