World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-LXVI

Prayers with a rosary:

Prayers with a rosary:

I do not criticize the counting;

But I love the jubilant lark

That counts not when speaking to God.

Each thing in its place:

Strict forms there must be.

With oft-repeated words

Thou canst sow graces in existence.

Ye think that with prayer-wheels

One can liberate nothing;

Yet one can consecrate one’s soul

To pious love of one’s neighbor.

Les prières du rosaire :

Les prières du rosaire :

Je ne blâme point le comptage ;

Mais j’aime la jubilante alouette,

Qui ne compte pas quand elle parle à Dieu.

Chaque chose à sa place :

Une forme stricte doit exister aussi.

Avec des sentences souvent répétées

Tu peux semer des grâces dans l’existence.

Avec des moulins à prières

Pensez-vous, on ne peut rien délivrer ;

Toutefois : on peut vouer l’âme

A un pieux amour du prochain.

Die Rosenkranzgebete:

Die Rosenkranzgebete:

Ich rüge das Zählen nicht;

Doch ich liebe die jubelnde Lerche,

Die nicht zählt, wenn zu Gott sie spricht.

Jedes Ding an seinem Platze:

Auch strenge Form muss sein.

Mit oft wiederholten Sprüchen

Kannst du Gnaden ins Dasein streun.

Mit Mühlen des Gebetes,

Meint ihr, könn man nichts befrein;

Jedoch: man kann die Seele

Frommer Nächstenliebe weihn.
