World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-XCVI
On a ship on the boundless sea —
On a ship on the boundless
India and Africa, from world to world;
The keel cuts boldly through the ocean
Beneath the limitless sky.
Such is the ego as it traverses the universe
On the path prescribed by the Most High.
The Self, Pure Being — the most profound
But both are subject to the One.
Inde et Afrique, de monde à monde ;
Sur la piste prescrite par le Très-Haut ;
Indien und Afrika, von Welt zu Welt;
Auf der vom Höchsten vorgeschriebnen Bahn;
Das Selbst, das Sein, — das tiefste Gegenüber —
Doch beide sind dem Einen untertan.
