Why is the soul full of vain images,

Why is the soul full of vain images,

When its happiness lies in the Great One.

Happy is he to whose soul, in the night,

The blessing of the Supreme Name has come;

Whom God’s Grace cradles into deep contemplation —

Who thought of God — and of whom God has thought.

La Béatitude dans le Nom Suprême est venue ;

Que la grâce de Dieu berce en profond recueillement —

Qui a pensé à Dieu — à qui Dieu a pensé.

Wohl dem, in dessen Seele über Nacht

Die Seligkeit im Höchsten Namen kam;

Den Gottes Gnad in tiefe Andacht wiegt —

Der an Gott dachte — an den Gott gedacht.
