Autumn Leaves & The Ring-Hypocrisy

Someone thought that he was Âtmâ —

His guru had supposedly told him: this thou must know,

And this suffices. — So said a man to me,

Completely in earnest. The atmosphere was ruptured —

As if swept away by a whirlwind.

I do not speak with people who are Âtmâ.

Yet: “I am Âtmâ, never was I other” —

Certainly. But the question is: How.

Quelqu’un prétendit être Âtmâ —

Le Guru aurait dit : tu dois le savoir,

Et cela suffit. — c’est ce que me dit un homme

Très sérieusement. L’ambiance était rompue —

Comme emportée par un tourbillon de vent.

Je ne parle pas avec des gens qui sont Âtmâ.

Pourtant : « Je suis Âtmâ, je n’ai jamais été autre » —

Certes. Mais la question se pose : Comment.

Jemand behauptete, Ātmā zu sein —

Der Guru hab gesagt: du musst es wissen,

Und das genügt. — So sprach zu mir ein Mann

In vollem Ernst. Die Stimmung war zerrissen —

Wie fortgeweht von einem Wirbelwind.

Mit Leuten red ich nicht, die Ātmā sind.

Doch: „Ich bin Ātmā, andres war ich nie“ —

Gewiss. Die Frage stellt sich aber: Wie.
