John Murray (1910-1999) was one of Frithjof Schuon’s most trusted friends. Murray was a graduate of Harvard and became close friends with Whitall Perry, a fellow Harvard student, and Joseph Brown during the early 1940s. During those years each of these three men began a correspondence with Schuon. Murray first visited Schuon in Lausanne in 1947, and remained his neighbor for the rest of his life, both in Switzerland and America. The close friendship that Schuon and his wife shared with Murray was such that he was, in effect, part of the Schuon’s extended family.
