Castes et Races

“The caste prevails over the race, because the spirit prevails over the form….. However, it is impossible to admit that races mean nothing apart from their physical characteristics, because if it is true that formal constraints are not absolute, forms must nevertheless have a sufficient reason.” These lines summarize well the spirit of this short but dense work, where the author refers back to back biological racism, a caricature of the traditional hierarchy, and democratic egalitarianism, a caricature of the equality of men in terms of their last ends. After recalling the nature of the great castes of Hinduism, the author attempts to define the fundamental psychological characteristics of the white, yellow and black races. This study is followed by considerations on the foundations of sacred art and on the individualism and relativism typical of modern art.
